Mich. Lawmakers Greeted by Anti-Tax Snowmen

Common Sense in Government is frosty to the idea of a proposed tax hike, so it created a new constituency to protest it.

More than 30 angry snowmen greeted Michigan state lawmakers as they came to work on Tuesday. The Michigan group built the snowmen late Monday on the lawn of the state Capitol.

The cold-hearted protesters held signs warning lawmakers not raise their taxes.

The group's leader, Wendy Day, said the protest was "the latest in a robust conservative uprising against new taxes and excessive spending."

Gov. Jennifer Granholm has proposed extending the state sales tax to cover a $1.7 billion hole in the budget.

But Common Sense in Government says lawmakers should cut spending before raising taxes.

I met with Rep. Tim(?) Horn (Frankenmuthon) Monday for an event. Afterwards I talked with him. He said that even though the budget is ‘short’ this year, each year for the last 5 years the budget has increased by 1 billion dollars including this years. The issue is not shortfall but less than the expected increases either desired or required.
He also mentioned that if every goverment employee from the local level to the state level took a 5% decrease in their salary that the State would save 2 billion and thus be within the expected shortfall.
Our representatives have taken a reduction in their pay already.
