again, i apologize. i haven't watched the olympics in many years. 1981, i think. maybe i should care about who wins what, but anymore, sport figures are all about branding and sponsorships.

just because someone can knock a golf ball in a hole, or run for 50 yards with a football doesn't mean they deserve one second of my time. imho.

What would Brian Boitano do
If he was here right now,
He’d make a plan
And he’d follow through,
That’s what Brian Boitano’d do.

When Brian Boitano was in the olympics,
Skating for the gold,
He did two sow cows and a triple lutz,
While wearing a blind fold.

When Brian Boitano was in the alps,
Fighting grizzly bears,
He used his magical fire breath,
And saved the maidens fair.

So what would Brian Boitano do
If he were here today,
I’m sure he’d kick an ass or two,
That’s what Brian Boitano’d do.

O, Canada! Canadian pair wins ice dancing
Virtue, Moir the first North American couple to win Olympic competition

Canada’s Tessa Virtue, left, and Scott Moir earned the first Olympic ice dancing gold for a North American couple Monday.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir brought down the house at the Pacific Coliseum.

Knocked the Russians right off their traditional spot atop the ice dance podium, too.

Virtue and Moir won the Olympic gold medal in ice dance Monday night, a first for the Canadians — heck, for anybody in North America. For only the third time since ice dance became an Olympic sport in 1976, a Russian or Soviet couple did not win the dance gold.

That ‘guy’ (and I use the term VERY loosely) is America’s own (yuk) Johnny Weir(d). Funny thing is...he has never SAID he’s gay. If asked, he says “none of your business”.
Gotta hand it to him for that.

Translation: 'If you're too stupid to figure it out, why should I tell you.'

It IS true. No North American skaters have EVER won an Olympic ice dancing event. That is, until tonight.

I have to admit...I sang along with the crowd when they played ‘O Canada’. If the Americans didn’t win, I was certainly pulling for the Canadians. As long as the Russians didn’t win, I was happy.

What did he place? 5th or 6th wasn’t it. He receives a lot of hype because of his lifestyle while I’d guess the majority of Americans were completely unaware of the American male who actually was the world champion coming in. I suspect that I.D. has narrowed since he became the first from our country to win Gold in the event since Boitano.

They skated beautifully and the young lady of the pair lost her mother yesterday, at the Olympics, and still went out and skated her heart out.

Indeed.

And it was announced today that Evan Lysacek (the US champion in question) is “an item” with Nastia Lyukin, the all-around Gold medal gymnast for the US from the Beijing Games.

My opinion: Quite a score for him, since she’s drop-dead gorgeous. That is, unless she’s a “beard”.

Beautiful programs tonight, and the medal ceremony was touching.

The Canadians on the podium and in the stands sing their national anthem with pride when they win. So do the Dutch and most of the rest.

Now and then you see a winner representing the U.S.A. silently lip-sync with the Star Spangled Banner, but most of them don't. You almost never see a hand over a heart during the anthem when we win -- they just grin stupidly and look proud of themselves.

What's up with that? Has the ashamed-of-ourselves left won the gold?

Excellent non-spoiler post.

Hopefully, everybody knew that at least one pair would win a gold medal. :0)
