In the period just after Pearl Harbor when Stanley joined up he was lucky to get a uniform. Regarding the red line on the visor, we are looking at black and white photos and Stanley seems to have gotten his initial issue ~ WITH NO RANK, NO UNIT DESIGNATOR, etc. YET.

No doubt Mrs. Stanley sewed those things on later.

We filmed my father for what must have been a full hour of his memories concerning uniform issue from his date of enlistment ~ before Pearl ~ to the day he left the service.

It really wasn't like there was this crisp, efficient supply system behind the uniform issues ~ more like laugh riot to laugh riot.
