Police locked down Rosedale Center on Saturday evening after a melee broke out; chairs flew and one teen was stabbed.

Roseville police called to the mall shortly before 8 p.m. had early clues that this was no ordinary scuffle: The first reports described a dozen people fighting near the upper-level Herberger's store entrance, using chairs as weapons.

When they arrived, officers said, they found several dozen young people fighting, and an 18-year-old victim with severe lacerations on his face. As they began searching for a suspect, large groups of teenagers refused to clear the area and more fights reportedly broke out in the mall, police said. More officers were called in, including two K9 units.

Then police learned that another victim, a 16-year-old boy, had been found stabbed in the back near the interior entrance to the restaurant Ruby Tuesday.

Two incongruous statements from the article (emphasis and CAPS mine):

When they arrived, officers said, they found SEVERAL DOZEN young people fighting...

Then:

As they began searching for A suspect...

Why in the world would they need to "search" for "A" suspect when there were "several dozen" suspects right in front of their faces?

it’s one more reason not to go there.

...from “Layers of Response” by John Farnam:

Layer One: Nonattendance. The best way to handle any potentially injurious encounter is:
Don’t be there. Arrange to be somewhere else. Don’t go to stupid places. Don’t associate with stupid people. Don’t do stupid things. This is the advice I give to all students of defensive firearms. Winning a gunfight, or any other potentially injurious encounter, is financially and emotionally burdensome. The aftermath will become your full-time job for weeks or months afterward, and you will quickly grow weary of writing checks to lawyer(s). It is, of course, better than being dead or suffering a permanently disfiguring or disabling injury, but the “penalty” for successfully fighting for your life is still formidable.

Crowds of any kind, particularly those with an agenda, such as political rallies, demonstrations, picket lines, etc are good examples of “stupid places.” Any crowd with a high collective energy level harbors potential catastrophe. To a lesser degree, bank buildings, hospital emergency rooms, airports, government buildings, and bars (particularly crowded ones) fall into the same category. All should be avoided. When they can’t be avoided, we should make it a practice to spend only the minimum time necessary there and then quickly get out.

“A superior gunman is best defined as one who uses his superior judgment in order to keep himself out of situations that would require the use of his superior skills.”

95% of Roseville is white, and the remaining 5% is divided up between Asian, black, hispanic, and Native American. It’s statistically probable the teens are white, so they decided it’s irrelavent to mention their race.

C'mon guys, this is just kids being kids. When we were teens didn't we all go to the mall, throw chairs, pull knives and gangbang the kids from across Town?

. . . . Now that I think of it, NO! Me and my friends never did this. I heard of teens who did but I didn't associate with them. I hung-out with the civilized crowd

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Rosedale...but I don’t think I ever saw anyone who wasn’t white shopping there.

Therein lies the problem. Some, not all, of these savages don't know how to conduct themselves in everyday society.

I used to live 2 miles from Rosedale.
Last time I was there I was surprised how much it had changed.

.
It’s getting late have you seen my mates
Ma tell me when the boys get here
It’s seven o’clock and I want to rock
Want to get a belly full of beer

My old man’s drunker than a barrel full of monkeys
And my old lady she don’t care
My sister looks cute in her braces and boots
A handful of grease in her hair

chorus
Don’t give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Saturday night’s alright for fighting
Get a little action in

Trying to discourage the Tea Party movement, are we?
