I find it amazing that some on here will attempt to spin this event into an act of valor. The man he murdered served 2 tours in Vietnam, did 20 years in the army total, was a fixture in his community and his church.

One of the local haz-mat teams practicing across the highway was from my community, Pflugerville. From my office we could hear the sirens and see the smoke, but we didn’t know what had happened.

This event can only fall into one of two categories.
The first being stack was a complete coward by attempting to kill innocent folks. The second being he just went crazy very fast. As in something happened to his brain.

I still remember when Charles Whitman was shooting people from the top of the UT tower. They later found a large tumor on his brain. At any rate, no logical thinking can be attached to what stack did.

At first I thought it was just witless hubris but as you can see, some folks here are going out of their way to to show solidarity with this klown and his evil deeds.

I think your scenario #1 will prove to be the more accurate one. This bozo didn’t want to pay his taxes and spent most of his adult life banging his head against the wall in a quixotic quest to avoid them. Nobody likes paying the taxman, and I daresay most of us have gotten stung by them - I know that I certainly have - but my point in all of this is that FReepers don’t advocate violence against government agencies (unless I’ve missed the bulletin). I’m not a jihadist and I don’t wish to associate with them.

We work to drive the fascists out through legitimate means - not violent anarchy.
