U.S. stuns Canada in Olympic men's hockey

VANCOUVER, B.C. -- When U.S. Olympic hockey player Jamie Langenbrunner scored in the final period Sunday night, a shot ricocheting off of his skate blade into the net, he just about jumped out of the arena with joy. This wasn't exactly a miracle on ice, but elements of it had become pretty difficult to believe.

An underdog U.S. hockey team hadn't merely given a powerhouse Canadian team a fight in a roaring, red-decked arena. By night's end, it had enlarged its medal hopes and left an entire nation bruised.

The Americans claimed their first Olympic victory in men's hockey over Canada in 50 years with a resounding 5-3 victory that featured opportunistic, inspired play by a team described as too young and too rough around the edges to achieve much here.

If Canada had to lose one game, this was it. Now the pressure is on the US because any lose from here on out is automatic elimination.
They need to keep up the aggressive play but also play a little more in the opposition’s zone because Miller looked shell shocked after the game.

Sounds familiar.

The movie *Miracle* came out several years ago about the Miracle on Ice game about the Russians.

I never thought watching a movie about a hockey team would be so interesting but it was a great movie.

One thing my kids and I have always wondered, is if there is anywhere we could get a copy of the original, real life Miracle on Ice hockey game. I’ve seen enough video clips of it to know that a record of it has to be around SOMEWHERE.

If whoever had the rights to it would put it on DVD, they’d sell a couple copies to this household alone.

Stunned? They look like they’re ready to cry.

I'm a hockey geek....I saw "Miracle" on Opening Night in the the theater.

It's the only movie that I've ever been to where the audience came out of their seats cheering. It was an experience.

For what it's worth, I think that Disney got it right, from the accents, to the speed of the game. Excellent flick.

My son is a real hockey geek as well and we went to see that for his birthday.

You wouldn’t think that a movie that you know how it ends, would be so riveting. It was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time.

The other thing I really liked about it was that it was so clean, something the kids could watch and you wouldn’t have to worry about what they might see.

Do you know where I can see some video clips of the game last night? I’ve tried to load the ones from the official NBC website but our computer doesn’t like the download to run the videos.

I'd look on YouTube. Or Google Videos (make sure that SafeSearch is turned on, unless you want an undesired Eye-full).

I've never looked for the complete game, but I'm sure that it's out there.

The levitating corpse was quite a play.

Yep, that was one of my favorites.

It's amazing what politicians can get away with.

Clearly some of the videos are just labeled at random to attract viewers and have nothing to do with the topic searched.

I wouldn’t dare click on some of the links because they are obviously an eyeful....

Any idea who would own the copyright to that? NBC??

The kid doesn’t look old enough to be able to read.

My kids would have worn the DVD out and then been able to recite it. They had GREAT memories..... for things they were interested in.

Didn't ABC have the Olympics back in 1980?

I remember watching the game, but I don't remember the channel.

Herb Brooks was a consultant for that movie, spent a lot of time with the actor that played him and died before the movie came out. People around Pittsburgh who knew him say that the movie got him perfectly.

I saw a couple video clips of the actual game and they showed the coach. They nailed him with Cast Kurt Russell.

I happened to find this site offering what it claims is the actual game.

Anyone know anything about this site? It looks legit.

I’ve never heard of that site so I can’t say one way or the other. Some local sports radio guys were talking about how difficult it is to show footage of Olympic events after the news cycle for that event is over. Apparently video rights are retained long after the events.

I did find this interesting youtube:
