“draft beer, not people,”???
I believe the draft ended in 1975. I was in college then.
The following year Carter the Disaster was elected and
gave amnesty to the draft dodgers in 1977 (if i remember correctly).

If this was 1979 or 1980 as the writer mentions, either
his bong-watered memory is bad or he hung around with
the lefties living in the past.

I’m the exact age as these people and it was sometime around ‘79 we had to sign up for selective service. It was during that time that concerns about the draft came up again.

Not only that, but the Iran-Contra stuff hadn’t happened yet.

Actually, drafting people into the Army ended in 1971, but the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 had prompted Pres Carter to reinstitute draft registration for 18 year olds. It wasn't the draft that students were protesting in 1980, but the requirement to register for a new draft.

There are too many "odd" and anachronistic statements by this guy to draw any conclusion except he is inventing this whole story.

The "draft beer" thing was purely Vietnam era stuff! This dude's lying!
