Groom Shot Dead At Wedding By Uncle's Stray Celebratory Bullet A newly-wed groom was accidentally shot dead by his uncle as he fired his gun in the air to celebrate the marriage.
By Dean Nelson in New Delhi 19 Feb 2010
Pankaj Kishore Karotia, 21, was just about to claim his new bride and take her from a wedding reception to her family home when his uncle drew his licensed handgun to fire a final shot in celebration. As he was loading it, it fired accidentally and hit his newly-wed nephew in the head. The reception party was almost finished when the tragedy happened. His new bride was waiting for him in the car as he died.
The groom's father said the uncle was "eager and excited" about the wedding and wanted to fire another shot to make the end of the celebrations. A police spokesman said "the bullet made a hole in the brain" and confirmed the uncle had been arrested for culpable homicide.

I thought that at a “shotgun wedding” the groom was shot if he DIDN’T marry the bride...

When I was in China there was a wedding celebration at the hotel I was staying at. They used a large number of firecrackers which were reputed to chase off evil spirits (or at least that was the historical origin I was told).
Someone needs to introduce these people to firecrackers...they're safer than shooting firearms.

Moron. Don’t pull the trigger unless you intend to shoot something.

I was certainly relieved to see it was a licensed handgun, that makes everything ok. Thank goodness he didn't shoot him with an unlicensed handgun.
But, really, who knew that Amy Bishop had a cousin in India?

That is a pretty sad story but at first I searched it to see if it happened to be a Mexican, because out here in Az the Mexicans are great for firing shots in the air on all the holidays. We’ve had a few killed from falling bullets and there is now a law regarding such.

I remember a case early in our Iraq adventures where a helicopter pilot came across a group of people, firing small arms at him. He returned fire only to learn, to his dismay, it was a wedding party and they always fire guns in the air at weddings.
This is a sad case and a horrid end to a celebration.

The groom’s father said the uncle was “eager and excited”
...or jealous of his boy bugger leaving him.
I’d chalk it up as “Muzzie domestic violence”.

.
You mean that bullets fired in Mexico don’t hang suspended in the air, permanently?
