OUTSTANDING!

I want one that will take out june bugs and cicadas.

When they get that perfected, move on up to mice and snakes.

This would be so cool.

It could kill mosquitoes in my neighbor’s yard before they get to mine.

Awesome.

Where do I find one?

I could build one if I had the parts and software.

this is really cool, and illustrates some great points about active target tracking. A photo-diode is used to determine if the laser is targeted at a mosquito, the range of the mosquito, and even guess the sex of the mosquito based on the flapping frequency of the wings.

I've seen a similar technique used for a gestural interface to track finger segments (using an IR lasers, thus effectively invisible). Also I recall 70's era anti-missile missiles with specially shaped detector arrays (wedges and concentric arcs) to perform target aspect recognition.
