HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- Amy Bishop kept quiet about a violent episode in her past around colleagues and students at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. But there was one personal issue she didn't mind loudly complaining about: being denied tenure.
Still, those who knew her said the woman accused of shooting six colleagues had never suggested she might become violent. Everyone from family and friends to her students said the intelligent and at times awkward teacher seemed normal in the hours before police say she opened fire in a faculty meeting Friday afternoon, leaving three dead and three wounded.....

Her husband said she/they were afraid that like a previous professor who didn’t get tenure, she might end up with a job........as a bus driver.
Well, that’s ruled out now. So they can relax.
Did anyone else read that when she was investigated for the pipe bomb - they found a “novel” she was writing about a girl who killed her brother and went on to become a brilliant scientist? Very strange .....
I think I read this past week her Mother was serving on the Personnel Board for the Town of Braintree MA. Probably gave her some favors by the police department IF she had any or perceived power by those or could have been the money & rich influence. I don’t understand how a Mother could “choose” between her children when one murdered the other and protect the murderer.
Her 4 kids are grade school through high school.
I agree totally (as you can see - I am the mother of 2).... But I have heard people say things like “well - he did kill their mother but if he went to prison his children would lose both parents”.... so I can see a parent thinking “if she is convicted, I’ll have no children left”...twisted thinking I agree... but stranger things have happened. I cannot imagine the strain of keeping the truth inside for all these years - think of what her mother thought when she starting having children, when she reached each goal in her career - I imagine she would have to reflect on the fact that without her (possible) silence/cover-up Amy could not be where she is today...
AS A PRISONER IN PRISON!!
She and her husband had some business on the side in which they had invented a new way to serve up bacteria samples that was better than using a petri dish. They had recently received over a million up front for their invention.
You'd think she might be happy not having to teach anymore and just work her incredibly successful business. But she didn't want to lose her professorship.
Police found a manuscript she had been working on about a scientist who accidently killed her brother and was trying to be a success at being a scientist to atone for the killing of her brother.
Not in Alabama. In fact only a very few states require registration, Il, Ma, Md (handguns), and NY come to mind (well also the Soviet Union and Nazi German, but I'm sure the aforementioned US police states' resemblence to those former countries is only superficial). I'm sure there are a few more. This is part of the ongoing liberal media's attempt to brainwash the public into thinking that guns must be registered.
I did read that UAH has one of the most generous policies among universities on compensation for research/inventions.... she & her husband stood to earn 50% of the profits on this new invention. (which probably would be millions based on the little bit I've read about it)
There are a**holes and good guys in every profession. Academia seems to select for arrogant a**holes, so good guys stand out (not that it necessarily does them any good when a**hole is a job success factor :)
Thanx.
I feel sorry for those kids.
After reading about the book she was working on at the time of the pipe bomb incident, I can accept that she’s a psycho and make some sense of her actions against people whom she feels are standing in her way, but i don’t understand her husband’s involvement. Maybe his business is dependent upon her salary and influence? Is he a psycho too?
But women blowing away multiples with a gun is rare as hen's teeth. Would love to know exactly how her wiring was effed up.
you are spot on —
We know she doesnt have any conservative/Republican connections because it would have become front page news already.
I wouldn’t be surprised if one day it will be revealed that she was diagnosed with schizophrenia when she was in her teens or early twenties.
The problem is perverse incentives.
Yes - I had heard that, too. Never thought that much about it but I enjoy reading about crime/mystery and most perpetrators are men.... guess that is why I'm so taken with this event. I imagine when the trial begins we will hear all about her mental condition.
My question is.. how could she function and be this disturbed... It takes a lot to keep a household of 6 running smoothly, 2 working parents, plus the demands of university career AND developing this new research breakthrough..... all while harboring such a dark side!! Truly fascinating in a macabre way.
Is anyone surprised? I am a bit surprised they reported it.... we'll see what the Main Stream Media does with this...
