I was a kid in the 80’s and the original was everywhere on radio. It was good ( not fantastic, but OK good ).

This remake is awful. Auto-tune and rappers?

Lionel Ritchie and Quincy Jones have shown us what is wrong in the music industry today. Rap and Auto Tune have virtually replaced people that actually have talent.

Wyclef Jean started screaming in Creole and sounded like he had to puke. I guess they call that music today...

I gave to Haiti in some other way, I’m not giving through this crap of a remake.

How can you tell when auto-tune is being used?

If you've been to recording studios many times and listened to people record who have to had their pitch corrected, as I have been, you'd know.

If you’re unfamiliar with Auto-tune, and especially if you listen to much pop and rock, you might not hear it initially. When overdone, the effect yields an unnatural yodel or warble in a singer’s voice. But the sound is so commonplace in modern mainstream music that your ears may have tuned out the auto-tune!

When used noticeably, an auto-tuner produces what most call “The Cher Effect“, named for her trademark sound in the song *Believe*. (In essence, we named the effect like scientists naming a new disease after its first victim.) Treated this heavily, a vocal track sounds synthetic, and obviously processed.

An auto-tuner isn’t a shortcut to a perfect performance. If you can’t sing the song properly, no amount of post-processing will make it sound like you did. So when your pitch matters, and you don’t want to correct it with an effect, you’ll need to work on your performance until it’s right.

I think the organizers of this present version are aware of the unbiblical nature of the original lyrics of the song because many people have pointed it out.
