Some of you, in addition to having no compassion, clearly didn’t even bother to read the article.

The woman wanted to lose weight, she was there to get a gastric bypass surgery to lose weight. She preferred to talk about lifestyle. Why couldn’t the doctor say she will need to follow a healthy lifestyle, along with the surgery? It would have meant the same thing. Instead, he told her “you are going on a f...ing diet”.

Of course not even considering that she is EMPLOYING the doctor, so she is a CUSTOMER. How would any of you like it, if people you are hiring to perform a service would curse you out?

I hire for results. If I’m doing something that guarantees failure, I WANT someone in my face, even if I’m paying for it.

I didn’t spend 25 years in the military just to melt when someone cusses.

If you don’t want the truth, then DON’T ask. That applies even if you are a paying customer.

The doctor doesn’t work for her, he works for the government healthcare system probably, she’s just another number.

Sometimes people need a knot jerked in them. The woman didn’t get obese overnight and had probably spent years tinkering with diets and whining to doctors who in turn soothed her with flowery language about lifestyles.

I wouldn’t like it, but I’d sure sit up and listen if I was told flat out that I was fat and lazy and that it was my own fault. And to GO ON A DIET. Plain, direct language doesn’t happen very often any more and that probably shocked her more than anything.

In the US, most docs won’t perform a gastric bypass or liposuction unless and until the patient has followed a healthy, weight-loss regime for around six months. Otherwise, it’s a waste of resources as the patient hasn’t done a THING to change his/her ‘lifestyle’ and would only be back for additional surgery in a matter of time.

One would assume that this women went to this particular doc because he has expertise in the field and has performed the procedure on any number of patients. Unless he exploded at all of his prior patients, it might be assumed she was quite obese and also quite dense and not willing to listen to plain English about what SHE had to do to justify his performing the surgery (and the state medical program’s paying for it).
