Pit bull kills girl, 5, in Mississippi

TERRY, Miss., Feb. 12 (UPI) -- A 5-year-old girl was killed Friday in an attack by a neighborhood pit bull in Terry, Miss., her grandmother says.

Mable Bingham said the body of her granddaughter, Anataisa, was found lying in a ditch Friday after the attack by the dog, which the Hinds County Sheriff's Department took into custody, The Jackson (Miss.) Clarion-Ledger reported.

"It's so sad," Bingham said of the death of her granddaughter, whom she raised since birth.

Bingham said the girl was playing in the snow outside when the attack took place. Additional details of the attack were not released.

The obsession with posting the pit bull stories has to be personal tragedy. There are other breeds that have killed and maimed innocent children. Pit Bulls are the dog de jour with gangsters and other types who use these dogs to enhance their machismo. German Shepherds were feared as much when I was a kid. Same type of person would have this type of dog and make sure it was aggressive.

Pit bulls don’t get trained for work as security/working dogs. They’re not trainable or trustworthy; too much bad craziness in them.

Owning an aggressive dog requires responsibility of the owner to control the animal. I have owned two Dobermans. They were never out of my control for even a second.

And of course pit bull worshippers are showing their sympathy for the animal that murdered the little girl. Keep it up, Chet! Every incident is most honestly crime news that needs to be known!

Exactly. Murderer! There's a reason that thugs choose pit bulls as fashion accessories to hang chains and padlocks on. They have a reputation for being inclined toward violence. Stereotypes are usually rooted in truth, no? Of course there are some great, friendly pit bulls. There are also some great Muslims. And some great congressmen. But I think the difference is between being bitten by some dogs, and being ATTACKED by a pitbull.

I know exactly what you mean. I mean, pitbulls are natural retrievers just like labs and golden retreivers. Nothing genetic about that. They'll point just like a german shorthair pointer too and they even have that natural born tendency inherent to all dogs to herd sheep and cattle.

Breed Specific Legislation that manynhere pray for will not stop with Pits...like any other nanny statism (see ciggies) it will mushroom and entail any working class aggressive dog breed period in short order

many of the same municipalities and counties that ban pits also ban Rotts, all Mastiff breeds, Dogos ...maybe Alsatians and Dobies too...not sure on that but what they would like is to ban all Mollasers and their mixed descendants which is ironic considering Pits have a high terrier DNA

any time a child is killed by a pet it is tragic..very...I never leave my bully even though bully is only 5 months with my 3 year old but unless we are all to own just Labs or less then folks should be careful what they wish for

I have owned guard breeds all my life and I'm older... they have only bitten folks who had it coming because I tended to them.

I wonder how many here think some breeds of humans are more likely to kill, rape or rob ya?...just sayin...

I never said you should not own a guard dog. I just said you need to be in control of it. My dog barks. I decide when it is time to bite. A good arrangement if you ask me.

I’ve seen more people attacked by the Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd breed than pitbulls, but pitbulls are BAAAAD.

Not surprising, since Belgian Malinois and German Shepherds are the most common breeds used by law enforcement. They have a lot of occasion to attack . . . criminals. Sure, they can be dangerous as pets, but they're also pretty uncommon as pets, and even more uncommon as pets of totally irresponsible people. Pit bulls are the breed of choice for people who think it's really cool to have an aggressive dog.
