“Looks racial to me. Black attackers. Black guards. White victim. Nothing to see here. Just whitey getting hers.”
Doesn’t look that way to me, didn’t see their races given. But if the victim was white, that would explain why people are getting so excited around here.
As I said in my anecdote before, it isn’t necessary to get into a fight with the kids. You step in between, and hope that they will think twice about hitting someone they have no beef with. This works a lot more than you might think, although it is also dangerous (I’ve used this technique several times in my life, and never been hit more than once). One time a work softball game turned into a brawl. I stayed out of it, except that whenever someone was near enough to me, I’d grab their bat, they’d turn angrily, and I’d smile and say “not with a bat”. And they’d let the bat go.
You also hope that by setting an example, others will also step up. There are a lot of people who want to do the right thing, but also don’t want to get involved. They are ambivilent, and stand on the sidelines. One person jumping in and saying “help me” is all it might take to get more people stepping into the battle.
And maybe you get some of the beating meant for the other person. I think I can take a punch better than some poor 15-year-old. And I probably have better insurance.
And, being a middle-aged white guy, security would be more likely to step in to help me.
And of course, if I HAD a security outfit on, I’d have an air of authority which should help stop the beatings.
Now, I wouldn’t step in if there were weapons visible and being used, not with 15 kids. I would talk to one person with a weapon to talk them down, but a mob can’t be talked to.
“You step in between, and hope that they will think twice about hitting someone they have no beef with.”
Hope is not a strategy. The female doing the beating apparently is a member of the Deuce 8 Street Gang, which means the other 15 hoodies were, too. No thanks, not without a very big gun.
I still want to know what caused the whole thing.
In another thread, it sounded like the girl getting beat up stole something from the other girl, or at least that was alleged, and the mother said she “made a mistake”, so maybe it’s true.
Not deserving of the beating she got, but would explain what set it off.
I haven’t had time to get all the information about this. I’m just livid that the security guards stood around and watched — they didn’t even tell them to stop.
Please don’t project your own level of fortitude on others.
I’ve been tested many times in my life in worse situations than that, so I know how I react in such situations.
Don’t assume that everyone is as timid and excuse making as you.
You’re right.
Well, I’m sorry. I don’t have all that Naval Special Warfare training so I have to work within my limitations, which are many.
I know some old SEALs and Vietnam-era Special Ops guys and I’m glad they like me ‘cause I really wouldn’t want to piss them off even as old as they are now.
But you continue to fight the good fight as you see fit and I’ll continue to do what I do, which in a few years maybe I can say something about.
Blowing your gang war theory out of the water, 3-torpedoes amid ship......
The 15 year old girl was being teased and harassed in the mall for dressing and acting White. Not a gang war but a racist hate crime. And you still would of stood by and watched?
From KOMO Mews
The girl, who is black, also told the detective that the altercation began at a nearby department store, where some in the group made threatening comments that she had “nice things” and that she acts “white.”

And as far as the Security Guards rules for engagement it states this:
“When faced with a clear and immediate threat of bodily harm, the Security Officer must always first consider retreating with any other people present to a secure position. When necessary to protect self and others from a clear and immediate threat of bodily harm, a Security Officer must use only the degree of force necessary to repel an attack or threat of an attack.”.
It gets worse. She was beaten up for acting White.

Like I said before, 15-1 you jump in all you want. Get back to me on how it turns out. She’s not dead, not even that banged up. Starting a general fight could have made it worse, especially for the outsider who butted in.
Not the hill I’m ready to die on, but you do what you think is right.
“Starting a general fight could have made it worse, especially for the outsider who butted in.”
Three paid uniformed security guards moving in between the victim and the attacker is not butting in and starting a general fight.
I take it that if the girl was pushed into the path of a bus or the light rail which use that tunnel and you saw that she was about to be hit unless someone reached out to pull her back, your hands would of been in your pockets.
Oh and by the way I have been in situations exactly like this as a uniformed and unarmed Shore Patrol Officer while in the Navy both overseas and state side. Even unarmed, we intervened to stop fights. Sometimes sailor on sailor, and sometimes Sailors or Marines against a civilians. And in almost all cases alcohol was involved, which gave us no less reason to get involve and restore peace. I would have been sickened if we were told to do nothing but watch until the Police arrived. And I sure there would have been a few deaths or serious injuries as a result of our non-action.

Oh, this conversation has gone way beyond that. The subject was one person, alone, intervening in this fight with 15 gangbangers ready to jump in.
And as Shore Patrol, it was your job and duty to get involved. You would at least know *you* were on the right side.
People have been jumping on me because I said I wasn’t prepared to get killed in a fight that I didn’t even have a scorecard for.
Specking as a Security guard Ill tell you this. Most Security out there is very limited in what they are and are not aloud to do, as far as what there companies, clients, City and or Sate allow them to do! They are not cops and most often have fewer rights to help people then a privet citizen while on duty. Less they want to spend jail and or law suit time on there hands. It seems they were doing the job as they were allowed to do it. I bet if they were not not afraid of legal problems and given the tools (Mace, Baton and maybe a Gun) to defend them selfs they would have and helped a young lady out. But sadly most security officers out there are only able to OBSERVAT and REOPRT thanks to the law suits of the self righteous out there. I am an armed commissioned security officer in the sate of TEXAS and would have had the tools and training to stop what had happened. Sadly even in my Sate there are far less Commissioned security officers then there is the type of security officers that had to stand there and watch what happened that day. If you want to talk big talk and walk big walk thats fine but you better learn the laws of your sate and if you need help and see a security officer that does not have a gun on his or her hip yell help and keep running because he or she can not help you.
