I'm trying to understand what it says about the state of American music

American music is in a sucky state.

I only listen to 40's music and punk rock.

Sirius Satellite radio, unfortunately, has dropped its only punk rock channel, but there is of course a WHO channel.

The dirty commie hippie bastards running major media will have to die off before we are rid of the 60's bands.

Contemporary music is even worse.

I’ll only listen to Watercolors, some blues, classical, western classics, and 40s/Sinatra.

I’ve noticed more recent jazz cuts are compressed, played repetitively, but the tracks seem to have been kept distinct, with an artist periodically ad libbing one track of one instrument, with all the others remaining the same known harmony, melody, and rhythm. Interesting method of variation on a theme.
