Whether Brooklyn or The Bronx, New Yorkese is all the same accent.

Not true. I have nailed Bronx vs. Queens/Brooklyn many times. I can't describe the diphthongs in question, I can just tell.

There's the "oy" sound for "i." Even my Verizon phone has that accent: "You have faw messages whose retention toyme is about to expoyre." Do they do different accents for different parts of the country?

And then there's the "er" for "oy"--not as common. I think from a part of Brooklyn: "Don't forget to flush the terlet."

"I can just tell"

I have an in-law who grew up in Hicksville. She's been living in Wisconsin for over thirty years. She still has a very noticeable New York City-area accent. My question is: how far out geographically does the accent extend?
