Socialism is not dead now. I see the book written in 1970 warning us of today. Here we are answering Socialism knocking at our door.

AFAIK, Marx developed his scientific theory on the inevitable collapse of Capitalism from the events of 1848. In 1870 the public was simply tired that his prediction has never become true. Capitalism was healthy and expanding.

Then, in the 1870's (19th century), Bismarck and the German aristocracy revived such ideology in order to keep under control the new industrial workers class.

Socialism has been ever since the best way to control industrial workers in Continental Europe.
