Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) castigated Brown for having pushed to be sworn in ahead of schedule to permanently fill the Senate seat left vacant by the congressman's father's death in August.

Ted Kennedy was elected for Senate in a special election on November 6, 1962. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_special_election_in_Massachusetts,_1962. He was sworn in the next day.
