I came across this blog and I really do think it's newsworthy. Obama and Congress promised the First Time Home Owner's Tax Credit, and then made mention, several times, that their plan was the reason we saw a surge in home sales. But the tax credit is evidently a "smoke and mirrors" ploy, at least for many of those applying. The IRS is dragging it's feet, frustrating people, and basically bringing about major distrust in the integrity of the system and the promise of the credit. I'll put a link to the blog in the thread. I've sent it to several news outlets, nobody seems interested, but IMO, it's as much a boondoggle as cash for clunkers was, when the car dealerships were not getting the promised credits, and it needs to be known by the public.
scroll down, there are pages of complaints (with the occasional person commenting that they received their credit.)
Write a letter to the editor or oped for your local newspaper. Call your local news radio talk show and make your case. Contact one of those “on your side” local TV news programs and get them to do a story on it.
IRS is too busy buying shotguns!
Thanks for the link. This blog should be required reading for anyone who thinks government healthcare is a good idea.
I’ve contacted every news outlet, from local to national, all the “pundits” and online talk guys. No response. I really don’t have a personal story to tell because, I’m not the one who’s applied, but I do think it’s newsworthy because as far as the public is concerned, Obama said these folks would get $8000 but they didn’t...they don’t know the true story that many of them not only didn’t get the $$$ but they are being tied up by bureaucracy.
And I agree, if this came to light, the general public might begin to understand about the danger to health care since the IRS is the major agency granted power from HCR.
You contacted them but what did you tell them? How did you frame it? What was your message? Couldn’t you find someone local who has been affected by this? You can’t just call them up and say, “Look, here’s this story, why don’t you report it,” and expect results. Most local news people aren’t very bright and have to be hand-fed information, with big red arrows pointing to the significant parts. Did you write a letter to the editor or an oped and submit it?
I didn’t try a letter to the editor, but our local paper is too left leaning.
I did try the local “on your side” reporter. He doesn’t seem to be interested.
I imagine my best bet is to find somebody who’s been affected by the delay. Some of the stories on that page are sad, but the blog originates in NV. Maybe I’ll call my realtor friend and see if he knows anybody caught in the hold up.
I’m glad I saw this morning before I left for work! I was going to mail my daughters tax return for her this afternoon. Now, we will gather all this extra paperwork these folks are saying they are being asked for and try to head the IRS off at the pass!
