Those climbs will certainly be uphill, but if we can’t get 1/3 +1 of either house this November, it will become even more difficult over the next decade.

You simply won’t - can’t - get that, it’s completely impossible to the point of ludicrousness. That would not only require a viable party, which doesn’t exist, it would require candidates, and candidates with money. Most of those seats aren’t even contested.

Ask FReeper Bob Parks what kind of support he received in his run for the General Court in MA. He knows it’s a complete and thorough joke. If we can’t get excellent candidates like Mr. Parks elected, there’s no way on earth you’re going to magically have 50 or 60 people suddenly find themselves elected in one shot.

Not to deflate people’s hopes, but I will be flabbergasted if we defeat so much as ONE incumbent House member at the federal level in the state. If we even gain so much as a handful of legislative seats (for which, the only way we could do so would likely be via open seats), that would be a triumph. Trying to win legislative seats in MA today is like trying to win as a Republican for a Deep South state legislature during the Jim Crow era. AL had a 100% GOP-free legislature even into the 1970s. That’s the kind of obstacles you’re facing (and at least in Alabama’s case, they were voting GOP for President at the top of the ticket in the latter days, you don’t even have that in MA).

I sent Bob money every time he ran, he is the type of wild man that Mass needs.

Yeah, although he’s now moved down to VA. Can’t blame him for doing that, all things considered.

Looking at the general description of the house and senate districts, one would think that close to half would be winnable in a good GOP year, but you’re correct that if we don’t run strong candidates and the party doesn’t support the ones that do run that we won’t get to 54 members in the house or 14 in the senate.
