My wife and I watched the first two seasons of “Lost.” We stopped because the story had become stupifyingly dumb. I imagine the end will be like the end of “The X Files:” an enormous let-down.

Here’s my prediction for LOST:

Global warming causes the ice caps to melt. Lost polar bears float on broken ice chunks which are drawn magnetically to the island due to trace iron trailings embedded in the ice from mining activities in Alaska. Famished, the bears land on the island and eat Kate, Hurley, Sawyer, Jin, Jack, etc. just before sinking into the depths of the rising ocean.

The final scene shows Locke cruising on his wheelchair turned jet boat toward the newly revealed Antarctic continent where Ron Hubbard has secretly been controlling the world with his e-meter.

I am with you about the degeneration of Lost, although I thought the first season was good. But, a couple of seasons seemed to really wander.

Fortunately, the writers/producers of the show listened to the complaints of viewers about too many flashbacks, etc., and they started pulling back on those.

I stayed with it and the season before last was pretty good, and last years season was the best they had produced (in my humble opinion).

At this point, if you have stuck with this show, you are hooked. I want questions answered, and I am hoping that they will be. I agree about the disappointment with the X-Files (I lost interest after Duchovny left), but I read an article about the producers and they said that ABC giving them an end date was actually helpful. It focused them on the story they wanted to tell, and how they wanted to wrap things up.
