It’s creator is making a branch. He’s apoplectic about how Oracle must want to destroy MySQL because it competes with their SQL language, but even that is probably only marketing posture. Either way, MySQL will presist; it’s just a matter of whether the best version will be a new open-source branch, or Oracle’s.
If it seems strange that Oracle would permit MySQL to be competitive, remember that IBM is one of the most profitable firms in America. When was the last time you bought anything from IBM? They’re essentially a consulting firm, now, teaching people how to technology... with a 44% profit margin!
Exactly.. It would be stupid for Oracle to kill MySQL.. I know they will..
While services is an ever growing part of IBM's portfolio they are still the largest server maker in the world and growing marketshare. The silicon inside of all three video game system, most of the world's routers and many cellphones, cameras, televisions etc are IBM made.
The death of IBM hardware has been greatly exaggerated.
