Tech sites are tired of reporting tablet rumors. They're looking forward to Wednesday just to get the thing out of the way so they can go back to reporting on their first love: Android phones.

The Chrome OS announcement was a tech geek circlejerk, by the way.

I've often thought a lot of tech geeks disliked Apple because they tried to make things user friendly. With the iPhone, for example, some of them seemed miffed that the interface was so easy you didn't need to be a geek to use a smart phone anymore.

My brother was a pretty accomplished painter, and started doing computer games. He told me one day, "I spent years studying how light falls. Now, with Maya, I just hang a light source and adjust the color and intensity and everything's perfectly lit. It seems like cheating."

Oddly enough, a lot of the geeks have a little bit of Luddite in them. Back in the days of yore, I remember the mainframe guys sneering at PCs, and then I remember the work station guys with the T shirts that said, "Real men don't use mice."
