Copying folders from music library in Windows 7
Posted on 01/24/2010 8:25:57 PM PST by Born Conservative
I'm trying to copy MP3 folders from my Windows 7 music library to a removable USB drive. However, when I drag the folder from the right pane and try to drop it into the drive on the left pain, it only creates a link to the folder. When I right click on the folder, there is no copy command. Any suggestions?

Yes, refuse to upgrade to an operating system that has Nazi DRM properties built into it.

When you ‘Right Click’ on the media .. do you have “Send To” in the drop down window?
If so .. just click on “Send To” and a window should open that shows your USB drive to send to.

The only options are open, open in new window, add to windows media player list, play with windows media player, and create shortcut.

You may have to open the folder you are trying to drag and highlight all the files. Then try dragging them. The files (MP3) aren’t actually in the Windows Media 7 directory, but are linked to where they actually are on your computer.

I can’t; the menu doesn’t have a “copy” option, and Control-C doesn’t work either.

Maybe there is some kind of copy protection going on there.
Try zipping them into one file and then transfer to the USB drive and unzip.

Adding to the info from post #6 right click on the mp3 folders and scroll down to ‘properties’. See if the data information indeed is in that file. Sometimes mp3 files are linked via a playlist shortcut icon.

Were you copying from the “library” or from the original file location?

That worked. Thanks!
I wonder if there’s a setting that can be changed to copy the whole folder?

Your not holding your mouth or something right when you "Right Click" your folder.
You must have a Send To option?

I just did drag and drop from explorer and had no problem. I also can do a synch and it copies whatever I drop into the synch playlist. Not sure what is the problem with your set-up.

Install Fresh UI. Google it. It lets you add a bunch of handy right click functions to Windows.
“Send to” is one of them.
There are other ways to do this including editing registry but none makes it so easy or has so many other goodies.
