NEW YORK - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Sunday it is cutting more than 10,000 jobs at Sam's Club, representing about 9 percent of the warehouse club operator's staff, as it outsources its product-sampling department to marketing company Shopper Events and eliminates another unit.
"Our demos can be a competitive advantage and we want to take this member experience to the next level," said Sam's Club CEO Brian Cornell in a memo to staffers.
Employees were told the news at mandatory meetings on Sunday morning.
The company also cut its new business membership representative positions, affecting about 2 staffers per store.
"We have found that we can more effectively drive membership through targeted member acquisition events and by increasing our partner membership programs," Cornell said.

So???
You should be happy.. It means people can work for a “Glorious Mom and Pop” store ...
“I like corporations that are lean, mean, competitive, profit-motivated, cost-conscious, consumer-oriented and honest. “
I like businesses that provide a product or service at a fair price, treat their employees AND customers well.
Walmart is mean, lean, profit-motivated thats for sure. I don’t see how they are customer orientated or really provide a solid value.
Greed is a bad thing, Walmart is greedy. Everything is about the money.
I shop at Sam’s about once a month. Most of their stuff isn’t really much a bargain, to me, but there are a few things that I buy regularly. One of their best deals is a giant soda and big Polish for $1.70.
Whatever Comrade.... A job is not a right..
I shop at Wal Mart regularly, specifically for the savings on many products that I buy there, and I find your assertion that they don't provide solid value laughable.
Sorry Comrade, Walmart provides good jobs, healthcare benefits for the employees AND great values for customers.
What union are you a member of?
“Whatever Comrade.... A job is not a right..”
What an ignorant comment.
A business treats its people well because its good business. This from the OWNER of a small business you doofus.
“I find your assertion that they don’t provide solid value laughable. “
I guess you don’t compare unit prices.
BTW low cost does not necessarily equal value.
“What union are you a member of?”
What the heck is with you walmart kool aid drinkers. I’m a small business owner and have never been a member of a union.
Just because I don’t buy their marketing hype does not make me a communist or a union member. So take your comrade and stick it.
