Walmart is one the few retail businesses consistently MAKING MONEY because they adopt to the changing economy. Walmart will be around for a LONG time. Walmart doesn't hire UNION workers and gives consumers VALUE for LESS money.
This article is a crock of anti-capitalistic propaganda.
It’s not exactly anti-capitalistic but because his logic isn’t logic at all. The very basic objective of the consumer is price first and WM provides very competitive pricing which he doesn’t address.
For personal bias, Costco owner and president is a lib/big-time Rat’ donator, and even though I fantasize about Costco failing, it serve a specific niche market which is selling bulk for small businesses..unless you have an account with them.
“Walmart is one the few retail businesses consistently MAKING MONEY because they adopt to the changing economy. “
not really, they just opened more stores. Walmart failed miserably in South Korea and Germany.
” Walmart doesn’t hire UNION workers and gives consumers VALUE for LESS money.”
They give you less value for less money in many cases. A pair of pants or a drill at Walmart are not of the same quality as those in many other stores.
“This article is a crock of anti-capitalistic propaganda.”
Really, I thought part of capitalism was analyzing markets and trends and adjusting to them. Where do you see the anti-capitalism?
Wal Mart is already adapting.
It is sourcing items more locally (to cut down on long haul shipping costs), opening smaller stores in more areas that are more easily accessible to people without a long drive to get to them, etc.
In addition they are building their stores with more daylighting (as Costco does) to cut back on energy costs and utilizing more so-called ‘green’ features in their new buildings ... to save money, but they are also using that as PR.
Wal Mart has consistently been able to adapt to different conditions rather quickly.
And yes, the fact that they are non-Union means they can adapt to wage fluctuations quicker than Union outfits.
Not for me!
The last two items I bought at WM were “made in China” and didn’t work for sh*t.
I have a bathroom sink now falling apart and I blame me for not checking the “where made” info.
If they keep selling crap they will end up like Obama....gone AND forgotten!
“gives consumers VALUE for LESS money”
They give you lower quality products at a cheaper price. Only to someone with low standards or low income is that a bargain. WMs prices on decent products are not lower. I have personally found many products higher priced than other retailers. WM has SOME good products cheaper and those are the products they like to advertise to the world.
The damage WM does to America’s economy as a whole is frightening. When they used to find products in the far corners of our country and give them national distribution, that was an economic powerhouse and great for this country.
Now WM tries to browbeat companies into providing products at prices they cannot provide then run to China and get the product cheaper, thereby causing the American worker to lose their job. You might have gotten a cheaper product for now, but what happens when it is you that loses your job? Is it fair China can produce a product cheaper because they do not have to obey our laws, such as labor laws or environmental laws or tax laws? Isn’t WM cheating by getting around our laws? Of course they are.
How about if your job is not directly affected by WM purchasing? You are still affected because the guy who lost his job was your customer, but not any longer.
And how about those cheap Chinese knockoffs? What are they made of, lead, chemicals we ban from products? Yep. But, hey, you or your child might be dying and you or your neighbor might be out of work, but damned if you didn’t get that drill $5 cheaper! It might wear out in 3 months, but it was cheaper!
Obviously, you either didn't read the article, or it was too complex for your talking-points-only mentality.
The article lays out some particular events, provides some analysis of those events, projects the trend of those events based on related factors in the economic environment, and formulates a sound logical conclusion based on the preceding.
So how much of that stuff was behind your snippy talking point?
