My computer is always on and attached to the internet. I’ve noticed the hard drive on my single desktop is ALWAYS doing a little “kick” every ten seconds or so. I know that because it is now in my bedroom.

Anybody got any ideas?

I’m thinking of formatting my main hard drive and re-installing xp. I’d have to re-install my software (not that big a deal). I keep all my files on an external 1 terabyte drive

Are you behind a router? Do you have a software firewall?

Almost all Windows systems have hundreds of background processes constantly running. It’s far from unusual to have hard drive access at frequent intervals.

If you don’t have a router, you should at least make sure the Windows firewall is active, but it is always better to have a router between you and the internet.
