Speaking of great jazz, I saw Dave Brubeck (I think he’s 89 years old) play a couple months back at a small club here in Seattle. Fantastic as ever.
My wife loves Brubeck’s version of “A Few of My Favorite Things” mostly because it doesn’t last nearly so long as the Coltrane one.
I met my husband at the Detroit/Montreax Jazz Festival in 1983 during a Sun Ra concert. But probably one of the most memorable concerts was sitting mere feet away from Mark Murphy singing "Waters of March" at the legendary Baker's Keyboard Lounge on Livernois (the Avenue of Fashion!) & 8 Mile in Detroit in the late 70's. He had the lyrics on a piece of paper.
He's an artist, a pioneer....
Was Brubeck b y himself, or did he play with his son’s band?
