Jesus, on a disastrous mishap in a Jerusalem suburb:
“...or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem?”—Luke 13:4

I do understand what he was trying to say, he just didn't do a very good job of it. He's human, we all are, if any of us was on tv as much as he is for as many years, I dare say, we'd have foot in mouth diseases at times too. The judgements I'm hearing on Pat, are just as bad, if not worse then what they perceived him to have said.
The people in Haiti do need to be praying to God, not doing voodoo or witchcraft. That'll just get more of the same.

Haitian history is very complex. That's for sure! I read quite a bit about it at one time. Unfortunately, their first leaders were not like Washington, who refused more than 2 terms, let along being crowned. The Haitian generals were mostly egomaniacs who wanted to be "emperors" and put people to work building colossal showy fortresses. That's not unique to Haiti; it's pretty much the way most of humanity has lived for centuries, even in the most advanced cultures. Dynastic warfare, internecine treachery, genocidal massacres, torture. Heck, we're lapsing back into rule by a corrupt elite right now even in America. Only the vagaries of English history and the Protestant Great Awakening made our society different for a while.

So Pat Robertson believes voodoo really works, and God will make someone else pay for it two centuries later?

Even more absurdly, Pat Robertson believes that you need to make a pact with the devil to defeat THE FRENCH.
