I'm not an attorney, but I was accepted at two ABA accredited law schools (mid-life, couldn't see the payback) and I did have to memorize the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure during a five year custody fight during which I filed over 100 motions (got the kid ultimately in a jury trial using two great attorneys).
I am a retired CPA and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
As a such I was trained to exercise “professional skepticism” meaning that I should always reserve judgment as to the accuracy and authenticity of any documents or representations of clients, even when they were paying me.
I was also a fully trained corrections officer (prison guard) in a state maximum security prison, a US Marine Corps aviation officer candidate who washed out for physical reasons and later was heavily recruited by the CIA for nine months up to the day I turned 35 and became ineligible..but learned a whole lot about the CIA on the way...
