A judge sentenced a 37-year-old Lincoln man Monday to four to five years in prison for inappropriately touching a young girl.
Manolo Segura Sevilla was arrested and jailed Feb. 26 after the allegations of abuse surfaced. He was known to the girl, who police said was 4 when the abuse began.
His attorney, Kristi Egger-Brown of the public defender's office, said he was going to go to trial, but he didn't want the girl to have to testify. She said it was a major consideration that led to his no contest plea in November to a charge of third-degree sexual assault of a child.
Deputy Lancaster County Attorney Bruce Prenda said the state believed the evidence by in large supported Sevilla's conviction.
District Judge Karen Flowers said while he denied his guilt, she had to start with the charge and his decision to plead to it. Then, she sentenced him to four to five years in prison, with credit for 319 days served.
Because he has an immigration hold, he is likely to be deported when he finishes serving the sentence
FReeperville Cornhuskers should send this article to Sen. Nelson asking him why this happened
