The reason I don’t like the AI format, is unlike the Gong Show, AI is mean spirited and requires the embarrassing of obviously “impressionable” youths for its drama. The Gong Show was by design a hoot, and everyone knew it, most of all the contestents. Watching a star blinded 16 year old perform badly and then be humilated by a multi millionaire B-list Hollyweirder is offensive and uncomfortable for me to watch. If this makes me petty - so be it. Funny, you seem to think I have somehow attacked those who watch the show - I did not. I criticized the show. Different strokes- different folks. Sorry my opinion has elicited such a strong reaction from you.
The saddest thing to me is that this 16 year old doesn't have friends or family that love them enough to be honest with them to start with. I would no more let one of my kids who cannot sing go on AI than let them street fight with a gangbanger thug knowing they are going to get their ass beat. That is the real cruelty.
