Just because SLC doesnt consider it doctrine, does not mean it is not part of the LDS lay theology and most of the members believe it.[Reaganaut]
Well Lds polygamy wasn't Lds "doctrine" all throughout the 1830s, the 1840s, most of the 1890s, and the 1900s, yet was still practiced by select Mormons.
That's one reason why so many Lds "answers" are downright deceptive. They know certain things have been and many things have continued to be taught by their leaders; some undercover; and yet they try to distance themselves.
Hinckley (Lds "prophet") did it during a few media interviews with Snow's couplet that God was an ex-man and man is a future god.
And Brigham Young, who said if he had a chance to approve a sermon message he'd given, that that content was "as good as scripture" -- and yet "Brother Young" taught Adam was God for over 25 years + blood atonement -- you have to shed your blood for your own sins if they are serious enough.
So it's kind of "funny" to hear Brigham tell us in one ear that his words are as "good as scripture" -- while in the other ear contemporary Mormons whisper, "well, that's Mormon doctrine."
Yup. Mormon "scripture" isn't Mormon "doctrine." (And that's true on dozens of things beyond what Brigham taught)
They know certain things have been and many things have continued to be taught by their leaders; some undercover; and yet they try to distance themselves.

Very true and a good part of the reason it is so difficult to witness to the LDS sometimes.
