OKAY, here's what we've got so far. I found these games tough to call.

With the Jets and Bengals, the Jets are ascending and the Bengals descending. Normally, I'd look at the QBs, and although Sanchez is a liability, Palmer hasn't been burning it up, lately.

Course I always pick the Cowboys, but I think last week showed a tipping of power in the NFC East. McNabb's past his prime while Romo is entering it. The Eagles have not shown a running game, and Reid abandons it quickly. The Cowboys defense is playing better. The keys for Dallas are no turnovers and keep Jackson underneath.

The Ravens and Pats: Neither seem to be running on all cylinders right now. I went Ravens, although I think the Pats have a better coach.

Cards and Packers: Packers slaughtered the Cards last week, but I'm going to be a contrarian. The Cards are good with front line, but have little depth. Last week they went with backups very early. This game is the first test of the competing theories of playing regulars vs. backups in meaningless games. Packers played regulars last week, Cards backups. If this week is a repeat, advantage regulars, if the Cards win, momentum isn't that important.

There are three repeat games this week, but each has different dynamics. With Cowboys-Eagles, last week was very important to both teams. With Jets-Bengals, important for Jets, not for Bengals. With Pack-Cardinals, meant nothing to either team.

A couple of thoughts on the Packers-Cards/rest players or play theories. If resting the players is an advantage, the Cards will start wearing down the Packers in the third, when the supposedly fresh legs take over. If playing the regulars is an advantage, the Pack will hammer early, as being in synch and having momentum going in should kick up immediately.

Welker getting injured is the wild card in this debate of regulars/backups. However, with 45 players, you've got to play some starters, so anybody that gets hurt, you can ask, "Why was he in the game?"

Almost kickoff for game 1.

Quick notations: on NFL Network, panel was split even on Jets-Bengals, and fans were 51-49% Jets. Basically a total toss up. On Cowboys Eagles, it was unanimous Cowboys on panel and 60% Cowboys from fans.
