Pit Bull Attacks Dad, Daughter In Douglas County
CBS4 ^

Posted on 01/01/2010 10:16:02 AM PST by Chet 99

The Douglas County Sheriff's Department says charges will be filed against the owner of a pit bull that attacked two people over the weekend.

A woman and her father were attacked near Roxborough Park.

The attack happened Sunday morning when the daughter was walking a friend's dog on Ponderosa Trail near her parents' home. The pit bull attacked the dog and then bit her and her father.

"The daughter initially fended off the first dog attack," Deputy Attila Denes said. "She then called her father to help load the animal into a vehicle to take to the vet. At that point the pitbull resumed its attack and bit both of them."

The pit bull is now being quarantined at the Buddy Center in Castle Rock.

The daughter suffered a broken finger. Her father has puncture wounds.

There is no ban on pit bulls in Douglas County.

"There is a good possibility some charges will be filed, but at this point that hasn't been determined," said Denes.

The dog that was attacked by the pit bull was treated by a veterinarian and is back home.

Since watching the Dog Whisperer my opinion of these dogs has changed, but I would still never own one.

They are far too powerful for most people to handle/train, and I am one of them.

I have several neighbors with them...some are terrific and some scare me.

So much depends on the blood line with these dogs

Is today Pit Bull Post day?

Or are you just not a fan of the breed?

I am afraid of most people's dogs because so many people raise them without good manners.

I have a neighbor who has a Rott, a Beagle and a Min-Pin. The Min-Pin is the one I watch. That little piece of crap is just waiting to bite.

I did have a couple of stray Pitts show up about a year ago, intact male and lactating female. You bet I was nervous to turn my back on those two.

As it turned out, the male had bitten someone the day before. Do I blame the dog? Nope, he was protecting the female. I blame the people who didn't have their animals spayed/neutered. They created the situation.

The blood line of the dogs—or their owners?

Some dear friends of ours lived in a rural area of VA and had two Pit Bulls. Both were sweet and lovable when we visited.

However, the next time we visited a year later, only the male was around. When asked, the owner told me that the female had to be put down because she had bitten two neighbors.

Strange. Both dogs were raised in the same home and trained by the same person, but one was nice and the other one wasn’t.

I have had three dogs of three different breeds and they were all so different (even though I raised them all from pups!) that I would swear that they have actual “personalities!”

I guess one can’t generalize about anything.

We have a year old neutered male Pit. He’s a sweet pup but he is strong and stubborn, which is why Santa brought him a little collar that goes Buzzz and Stingy when he won’t obey.

Ah, yes. Mr. Sparky is your friend.

I have three Labs. One is so soft that I never use the collar except on a low or medium 1 (it goes up to a high 6 - in other words 18 levels). The second is a hard-headed field trial charger, and she needs a medium 3 or maybe even a 4 if there are live ducks around. The third one is just a pup, but it looks like she's going to be a repeat of the first one, and just need a 1 or low 2.

But I'm glad I have the thing because no matter where they are, if they don't obey I can call out The Bees.

Colorado has a dangerous animal law that can hold the owner criminally accountable.

P.S. This is another reason I carry. We like to go to parks and I have seen way too many nutball animals roaming freely.

That is true, I had a flock of Angora Goats and loved to sit in the barn and watch how they interacted with each other, and even goats have their distinct personalities...it only takes watching and knowing each animal to discover that..
