North Augusta, SCThis familys backyard is quiet today, but Monday afternoon, the scene here was chaotic.
Aiken County deputies say two children were at home with their father when he ran up the street to get his five-year-old little girl some medicine. She went to the back yard to play.
Sgt. Dave Myers: The little boy heard the commotion in the back yard.
The commotion, investigators say, was the familys pit bull, attacking the girl, and her ten-year-old step-brother leapt into action.
Sgt. Myers: Ran out there, tried to punch the dog off the girl. Wasnt working, the dog wasnt budging. Went back inside, grabbed the knife, came back out, and started attacking the dog with a knife. That didnt work.
The boy ran next door to the neighbors house for help. Sgt. Myers: And together they went and got a chair and took the dog off the little girl and the dog ran off. The dog was taken to the Aiken County animal shelter, and because of its injuries, put down.

He ran up the street to get his little girl some medicine? For what? She wasn’t so sick that she couldn’t go out and play, so maybe he should have taken her along. Sounds tome like the medicine thing is a likely story excuse for going to get some “medicine” for himself.
brave young man
Yeah, accuse the guy of doing drugs with zero evidence. As if the guy’s day wasn’t going bad enough.
true, but you just don’t leave a 5 year old, even in the care of a 10 year old, even though he saved her life.
Wow, a ten year old in charge of a five year old? Irresponsible parenting combined with irresponsible dog ownership. I would bet this “family” dog probably wasn’t even allowed inside, and certainly wasn’t socialized. Yet another great example of the real problem: people!
