Mike Leach Gives Interview to ESPN, Trainer refutes James
ESPN ^ | 01/01/2010 | ESPN

Texas Tech head football athletic trainer Steve Pincock said Red Raiders receiver Adam James was placed in a "sports medicine garage" and media room as "big as a two-car garage" while recovering from a concussion, and was monitored by two trainers at all times.

Pincock's account of the incident, given in a statement to representatives of former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, contradicts James' version of events that led to Leach being fired Wednesday.

James, who is the son of ESPN college football analyst Craig James, sustained a concussion on Dec. 16. He was examined the following day and told not to practice because of the injury and an elevated heart rate.

I think Craig should be fired by ESPN and the kid should be kicked off the team.

I like TT except when they play A&M.

Adam James didn't fire him (contrary to popular opinion).

Crybaby Adam James was at the root of Leach's problem, so why should he ignore him?

If Craig James was using a company phone to do his dirty work, ESPN is also implicated. If so, ESPN will drop him faster than they lynched Leach.

Excellent point.

well to any disbelievers,i would look to what their particular bias might be. my husband is a big East fanatic, of the Syracuse orangemen persuasion, so he’s totally objective about this situation. any nay-sayers might have some bias?

I meant out of the public eye. His interaction with players, staff and administrators are private in the sense I intended. I certainly am not commenting or speculating about his personal life if that is what you understood. I remain convinced that the University would have jumped through hoops to protect a coach with Leach’s record on the field if he weren’t a disruptive influence off it.

It seems that Leach lacks the people skills to deal effectively with everyone in the program.

How do you know that? Did you just pull this out of your @$$?

Oh I dunno. I've seen a few Longhorn fans trashing Leach. To me, though, *any* college football fan should support Leach, because this same precedent can happen on any team- and ultimately destroy a program.

Anyone who has ever coached (I was a high school softball coach in my 20s) knows how toxic both entitled players and their parents are. They seem to be getting worse, too. Add celebrity to that, and it makes matters that much worse.

Let's put this is every day terms. This isn't any different than the lady who was fired because she refused to take down her American flag that 'offended' another employee. Just because someone feels they've been wronged doesn't make them automatically right. As with this case, Leach was clearly and wrongfully convicted to save the college money, especially in light of the conflicting statements/video from Adam James.

Of course, the Leach lynch mob has continually changed their justified 'reasons' for firing Leach every time new facts are revealed.

You are living in a false reality if you think a college football coach isn’t going to rub some players and folks the wrong way. My God, how PC can you get?

My son is a TT alum and he thinks the only reason Leach was fired over this incident was that the admin was looking for a reason to fire him.

They knew what he was like (as in Bobby Knight) when they hired him and they wanted it. He coached the team to the bowl game this year and should not have been fired right before he would have earned the 800 thou bonus. And this without a hearing.

I don’t like the way some coaches treat players but most players who went to Tech knew about Leach and his methods ahead of time.

I don’t believe he’s ever been physical (not sure)... he deals more in humiliation and derision. (don’t listen to your fat little girlfriends).

Maybe he should be fired, but not without a fair trial.

I think he is absolutely correct stating his case and setting the record straight. Allowing a biased ESPN set the “facts” according to James as gospel is what is wrong.

Tearing into Craig James was appropriate.

Read the entire post Nimrod then look up the definition of the word seems. Everyone in the program includes the people he works for as well as those who work for him.

An actual adult would address the people who fired him. Not attack the character of a kid. I don't expect you to get this. James didn't get Leach fired. The university fired him. Attacking a college kid's character (regardless of how poor it is) to try to make himself look better shows exactly what kind of character Leach possesses. I contend it is not chacter worth emulating.

Many people are asking if Leach was such a problem, why didn't they get rid of him long ago? The same question should be asked of Leach re: James.

Craig James isn’t going anywhere. There may very well be some embarassment for Craig James once his meddling is exposed if it indeed happened.

Amen. Whenever I hear about Coach Leach, this is the image I have in my head:

Ruffin McNiel may be a very good defensive coach, but he does not strike me as a man who will be very good with reporters or the alumni. He may just not be a number one guy. Look what happened to the former USC assistant who was hired to be the head coach at Mississippi State a few years ago. Great recruiter and assistant coach, but failed as a head coach. Fortunately he hooked on with Tennessee as an assistant and recruiter where he will do just fine.

Tearing into Craig James is fine. Tearing into Adam James is inappropriate and indicative of low character.

Had Adam James not been the son of an ESPN commentator, this would have been a non-issue.

It certainly gives Craif James and ESPN a black eye. With Craig James, it’s just another example of a member of the media using it to further his/her own agenda,

You and I will have to disagree. Embarrassing the spoiled, lazy brat is a good way to possibly wake him up to the real world. From what I have read, I’m fine with it. The kid isn’t a “child”.
