WHY DOES GOD APPEAR SO MEAN?
TruthInConviction ^ | Dec 31 | J. Grant Swank, Jr.

Posted on 12/31/2009 4:16:58 PM PST by freedomyes

“Grant, I wonder if you are a football fan? Just because, if so, I hope you're demanding to the team ownership that the whole team should be put to death immediately. After all, a literal reading of the Bible does tell us that anyone who works on Sunday should be killed, right? And you've apparently linked belief in Christ with blindly following everything in the Bible.”

Yes. That is one of the major themes of this article.

Those who gloss over the article come up with the incorrect conclusion as is evident in some of the above responses.

It’s still an extremely awful experience. I’m not exactly grateful towards God for creating me. At all, actually.

suggestion, if you want to take it seriously:

contact an evangelical minister. tell him what you have written here.

listen to his responses.

that should not be that hard if you really are serious.

the pastor cannot be a theological liberal. he must be a biblical pastor who believes that the Bible is totally the revealed Word of almighty God.

It would be much easier to approach the idea of trying to [ahem] "Digest the entire post in order to get the point that the theme is..." if a few simple questions posed to you would be answered --- first.

Who. Why. Etc... Feel free to pick one, but an answer IS required.

Quit playing religiosity games, and fess up!

I have responded to the question...”why does God appear so mean”...

Perhaps it would have been better had the title read..”Why God is Not mean”.....and because I do not see Him as mean the article is better intended for those who do.

The gist of this piece is not the debate over Saturday or Sunday as the holy worship day.

Read the article and see if you can figure out the real thesis.

Why do you waste FR bandwidth with N00bie ignorant game playing.

Go back to DU.

Uh, no. That's not the bottom line or point of the article. The bottom line is more like Swank being able to justify his own "meanness", by pointing to the Lord's righteousness.

it's an old trick. seen it before.

the article had such a title purposefully.

it was to get attention.

and that is what it has done.

now for those serious readers who digest thoroughly reading material, the title is no problem.

for those who skim and rashly conclude, they have an ongoing problem.

the title is just fine.

Don't feel lonesome,,, I have searched for god for 40 years, he is either very illusive or non existent. Take your pick.

While J. Grant Swank Jr. appears to be a pretty good conservative, he's missed the mark on this anti-death penalty article:

It is a Christian tough love. Tough love keeps the exceptional criminal alive but consigns that one to supervised environs without parole. Hopefully, even that exceptional criminal then may come upon redemption through Christ, yet never be placed in tempting circumstances whereby he again may do others and Himself harm.

Keeping the individual alive also allows the possibility that, realizing human justice systems to be flawed, that person in truth may be found innocent though originally pronounced guilty. Indeed, the future may prove this to be fact if new evidence is forthcoming. History has case files on those in the aforementioned category.

Pastor Bob Enyart has an excellent article on why God approves of the death penalty, entitled "God and the Death Penalty": " The punishment side of God's criminal justice system in the Mosaic law is directed to governments who were commanded to execute the criminals, it was not directed to individuals. Thus, individuals who used these laws to justify their own lack of forgiveness were misapplying the law. Jesus here repealed neither the prohibitions against murder and adultery nor the command to love your neighbor. Rather, He was correcting misinterpretations. Thus, in the same way Christ was not repealing "an eye for an eye" but explaining the right heart attitude of a believer." http://www.theologyonline.com/DEATH.HTML

Your view of God is generally a reflection of your spiritual condition.

If you are fearful of God, or if He is an angry God, you have some work to do on yourself.

My God is a God of great love.

please please please read the whole article again.

the theme is NOT that God is mean.

the theme is just the opposite.

but i will let you discover that by not responding critically to the post until you have read it several times in order to know what it really says.

you, like others above, have quickly responded without thoroughly reading the thesis.

it is that GOD IS LOVE and FULL OF GRACE AND MERCY.

there. now i have told you the bottom linei to the post. let’s see if you can find it.

I have read other articles by this author, they seems illiterate and
ignorant. They demonstrate a complete lack of communication skills.

And OBTW his facts always seems to be not commonly held.

I read the whole article. But the author is wrong to equate Sunday with the Sabbath. The article goes downhill from there.
