Off the political topic, I also greatly respect the opinion of FReeper FRiends in other areas; what is your favorite Dusty Springfield tune?

“Son of a Preacher Man.” The only song I know she did and because the film “Pulp Fiction” brought it back to life for me.

I too like the duet with the Pet Shop Boys the best, it’s a great song and it was a cool comeback for her.

“Downtown” was Petula Clark, who was British, but very similar style to Dusty.
I Like “Wishin’ and Hopin” too.

“I would answer, but I have no idea who Dusty Springfield is.”

Hence the cause for the thread. She was just a tad before I arrived on the scene, though I do remember some of her more famous stuff.

Obviously, some of our friends have a very high opinion of her art.

Some tunes were posted, might be worth checking out to see what you think?

Very cool. I had forgotten the Pet Shop’s song.

I was a child of the 80s and I remember that my friends gave me a real hard time for buying one of their LPs.

That is probably one of their best songs. My biggest problem with thei music is that it was a little stiff and sterile.

Dusty does a nice job of breathing some soul into that one.

Do you mean “Make it with you?”

That is a great tune and a nice version.

Is her’s the original or is read the originator of that song?

Cool. I’m more familiar with BCR’s version of “Only want to be with you.”

Have not been that familiar with her stuff and would like to check it out.

Thanks.

You guys are sticking to the mainstream Dusty. Try listening to ‘’I’m Going Back’’ or her version of Randy Newman’s ‘’I Think It’s Goin’ To Rain Today’’.

For me, ‘I’m Going Back’ is the best.

I remember her version.

Sting covered for the remake of “Thomas Crown”. I like Dusty’s version better, but I think it was smart of Sting to give it a totally different ~ jazzy ~ twist.

For those who wondered, she dies at age 59 after fighting breast cancer for 5 years.

I agree.

If I had to pick one song by her “You don’t have to say you love me,...” would be the one.

I like some of the other songs, but this is the obvious pick for me.

You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me (I think that’s the title). Son of a Preacher Man.

I always thought the song “My World is Beginning Today” in the “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” cartoon was modeled after Petula Clark.

Now, I believe the producers were really aiming for Dusty Springfield.
