This week the Kern High School District will hold a public hearing on naming a new charter school after President Obama.
They plan to call it the Barack H. Obama Leadership Academy.
Meanwhile the Orange Unified School District (in Orange County ) recently rejected a similar petition for a Barack Obama charter school.
Yeah - I’m an oldie - lived in South LA - when they had a trolly car that went on tracks from 120th to downtown on Broadway and Vermont Streets. I lived on 104th street between Broadway and Main, and because I had vision problem, the school bus tok me to 32sn St school for First grade, and then 63rd St school for 2nd grade and then West Athens at 120 and Vermont for 2 to 6 grade. Graduated from Mount Carmel, at Hoover and Florence, and then UCLA later.
I saw a small town (sorta) atmosphere to a metropolis mind set. The sea breeze from the ocean was a great blessing, and I loved seeing the airplanes fly over to land at LAX.
I had Mexican, Black and White friends, and we all got along and respected each other throughout my childhood.
What was your experience?
Do you remember Hobo Kelly, “Hi friends, Ralph Williams of Ralph Williams Ford”, Sheriff John and “My Dog Spot” and all that?
Grew up in Chino ‘til I was 14. Back then California schools were world-renowned.
I am still here. Political correctness run amok. I just heard today they will be putting high tech signs in the desert that will direct the illegals to where they can find water so they won’t DIE in the desert breaking in and destroying our country (at the express wishes of our liberal politicians).
Freebies to illegals has nearly killed this state. Ahnold is NOT helping.
Today on the radio Tim Conway Jr. was reminding parents that in the L.A. Unified School District, teachers’ reviews are completely unaffected by whether their pupils are learning. That is NOT allowed, to reward them based on outcomes. It SUCKS here.
The weather is still great though.
Barack H. Obama Leadership Academy,LOL Obama’s leadership skills is what one steps in at the park.
No classes, no grades, no accomplishments.
California is beyond hope. Jim get out while you can.
Back in the late 80’s there was a bumper sticker that became very popular in CA. It read:
“When the last native Californian leaves the state, bring the flag.”
I left in 1995 and haven’t looked back. My advice to those true American’s still there, get out while you still can. The state is lost. It can’t be brough back.
” Leadership 101, by Barack H. Obama:
(1) When a public crisis hits your company—go on vacation!
(2) If you are already on vacation—Stay on vacation!
(3) Do not respond to the crisis in any way for 3 days. Do not address the public at large.
(4) When you do finally respond, at first deny any responsibility.
(5) The next day, accept responsibility, then return to your vacation”
This brings to mind an incident that happened to ME, personally, two years ago. My husband and I were halfway on the way to a long-planned vacation to St Pete. His cell phone rang. His mother (estranged) had passed away after a long illness. IMMEDIATELY, we turned the car around at the next exit, canceled the vacation(no refunds), booked two emergency flights to Boston, ended up sleeping in the dead woman’s apartment because we had no place to stay and no money, and had to endure an insulting funeral and being snubbed and written out of the will. BUT we did the right thing and I’m not even the President of the USA.
Oh boy, are they ever asking for trouble.
Oh yeah. I remember.
Maybe they can name a “special needs” school after him.
I was born at the Kaiser Hospital there on Sunset and spent my early years in the West Adams district on Magnolia by the 10 freeway. Then the Harpies gang moved in so my dad picked us up and moved to Paramount in the 60’s. The gangs eventually got there so we moved again to Bellflower. After H.S. I left for the Navy and have since been back. Now it’s hard to find an English speaker here. I don’t go as back as you but I remember when this place was still dairies and strawberry farms. That trolley line went through Bellflower but the little depot is now a museum. Once a month I go into Watts to help out at a church there and I can tell you it looks horrible. There are prostitutes on corners and drugs are everywhere. Traveling to downtown via Central and 102nd, it looks like a third world country. Mostly people fro El Salvador and Nicaragua. The garment district is no different by the Staples Center. You wouldn’t recognize it.
I loved Cecil. Remember Winky Dink?
As was the California highway system.....how far we've regressed.
About 12 years ago we took our neighbor's mother over to that Kaiser on New Years morning, so she could watch the Rose Parade with her hubby who was a cardiac patient there.....their granddaughters were both in a marching band, and the neighbors were, of course, in attendance.
What stunned us was how filthy and run down that hospital was......we felt like were in Bombay, judging by the staffers. Went home and showered.
No I missed Winky Dink! I would get home from school just in time to see Cecil. There was another show with Uncle ???? that was pretty entertaining too.
