The last time I wore my kilt when traveling it lengthened the time I spent in airport security!

I had packed my sgian dubh (traditional Highland stocking knife) in a bag that at the last minute I decided to carry aboard instead of checking through so I could be more immediately ready for performance upon arrival.

Didn't even think about it --this being the late 80s to mid 90s-- but the knife triggered an alarm in the x-ray machine and I spent a few uncomfortable minutes until the agent decided it was okay: the blade was slightly shorter than the limit of the time. Stupid: my car keys were probably a deadlier weapon than that costume knife.

Water quality here sucks, which is why I drink filtered water. I don’t even water my plants from the tap unless the filter is on.

Heh. Last place offered me things if I didn't have the bed made every day.

Well, okay. It seemed a perfectly good bed on the first day and likely to last through my visit, so I just told them I'd use the same one every day. They didn't have to make any new ones on my account.

Breakfast in bed? They didn't offer that. Probably a good thing, because I don't sleep well on toast crumbs. They itch.
