If you have a pet named Max, youre hardly alone.
Max was the most popular name for both male dogs and male cats in 2009, according to the Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. The hospital compiled its unscientific list from the more than 50,000 patients it treated this year.
The top name for female dogs was Bella....

Wow, some one pee in your Cheerios or sumthin?
We have a copperhead out back that the boys refer to as Obama.

She seemed kinda psycho at the time.
My daughter’s cat was named Bella before the books were written.
My cousin had a big seal point siamese. That cat had friggin’ shoulders for cripesake.
I considered re-naming her after I found out about the Twilight thing.
My two outdoor puttys are “Mr. Gray” and “Charlie Cat” my indoors are “Ozzy and Gregio”....I think that’s orginal...
Smarter and more human than most people I run across, most amazing pet I ever had.
12 lbs. is a very substantial Siamese. Their breed standard (like our greyhound’s!) is much more slender.
That said, Siamese are as happy to eat up as any cat, and Canoe’s coat is magnificent. My Shannon (Humane Society calico) has a thick, plush winter coat like that.
I think its funny that those two names are popular baby names recently.
I don’t know anyone with a child named Max. Years ago, I knew one family with a “Maximilian,” named for St. Maximilian Kolbe.
I know two or three families with a “Maribel” or “Isabel” who is called “Bella” or “Belle.”
Don’t know anyone with these pet names, either. We have to remember that this is one Boston vet’s experience, not a statistically-valid nationwide survey.
We’ve got a cat named Claymore.

Hydro (102 lbs) and Percy (85 lbs)
A good friend of mine named his son Maximillian(Max) and AnneBelle(Belle). I personally don’t care for either of those names. I just laughed seeing those are animal names.
Males. Ours is a girl, about 60 lbs. If you can’t see their ribs, they’re eating too much and exercising too little!
I don’t like the names, either. My sons are Bill, Tom, Pat, Jim, Dan, and Frank!
Hell yeah! Mens names. I’m Jeff. Dad was James. No dog names for us!
I think ill name my next cat Shaniqua or L’ranza.
Jeff is a good name. Our dog’s name is “Ashdown” (Ash); she came with that from the greyhound rescue agency. Cats are Shannon and Jake. Gerbils are Shadow and Georgia. Lizards are Santana, Slash, and Paco (guitarists!).
