12/20/52 "The Christmas Story" Program #35 William Conrad (Matt Dillon), Parley Baer (Chester Proudfoot), Howard McNear (Doc Adams), Georgia Ellis (Kitty Russell), Lawrence Dobkin (Amos Cowley), Harry Bartell, John Dehner ; Writer - Antony Ellis ; Director - Norman Macdonnell ; Music Composer/Conductor - Rex Koury ; Announcer - Roy Rowan ; Forty miles from Dodge, a mile north of the Cimarron, Matt's horse breaks it's leg. Matt is forced to walk and it looks like he will not make it back in time to spend Christmas Eve with Doc, Chester and Kitty. Along the way he meets a stranger, Amos Cowley, traveling the prairie on a sickly old nag, who offers mat the opportunity of riding together. When it is apparent that Matt will be late, the stranger offers Matt his horse, saying he will walk. Matt refuses and when they camp for the night, the stranger recounts his tragic story. Matt Dillon recounts a number of Christmas stories in flashback about the people of Dodge.

Working the day shift out of burglary division, Friday and Smith are assigned to find a statue of baby Jesus stolen from the oldest church in Los Angeles dating from 1781, The Old Mission Church at Sunset Boulevard and Main. They meet at the Church with Father Rojas and get the details. Next, they go to a pawn shop run by Mr. Flavin. Then they meet with alter boy Joe Heffernan. He gives them a lead on Claude Stroop. Jesus is finally returnned by a little Mexican boy who had taken him for a ride in his brand new red wagon. (Rebroadcast as Program #373 on 12/25/56.)

A well-done and very moving Christmas story.
