I actually still use Firefox 2.0 because some of my favorite add-ons and themes are not Firefox 3 ready.
I have the latest FF and noticed that it takes a lot longer to be able to browse (I start with about:blank) with each new patch release applied (might be a local machine issue) Anyways, I loaded the latest Google Chrome a few weeks back and I’m quite impress at it’s speed at rendering sites. Possible local machine issue with FF not effecting Chrome performance a bit. Chrome is worth a try.
There is no reason to use FF2 instead of FF3 based on addons.

Install it, in the options and also in the addons window, it can force updates on 95% of addons that have not been updated.
