Yes, but that is looking at perfromance only...the question to me is what things are better with BSD...maybe security?

Not sure where that gets discussed...

And then there is some hints of special stuff in OpenSolaris.,,,traces, etc.

I would guess for a desktop user ,...performance might be the main issue,...

I only commented on performance because, well, they were benchmarked for performance. LOL

BTW, Ubuntu is close to their stated goal of a flat or sub 10 second boot time on an Atom powered Netbook...

The reported boot time for Ubuntu 9.10 on the Mini 9 was 59 seconds, but only 24 seconds in comparison for Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 1.

In the past, we had been able to boot Ubuntu 9.10 faster, but these are clean Bootchart results from Ubuntu 9.10 on a stock installation. The peak disk throughput was also higher under Ubuntu Lucid with a speed of 84MB/s compared to 79MB/s with Karmic.
