Look - to be fair, I understand what you are saying here. Personally I think KISS should be in. But SOMEONE or some group HAS to be the arbitor of public taste when it comes to something like this. And until it's you there will be chioces you don't agree with. Same goes for anyone else. It is a private enterprise. We don't get to choose what GM produces. We get to buy what they make - or not.
We can certainly debate the merits of this band or that. But even someone who hates ABBA should be able to look at what they did and when and be able to acknowlege they deserve consideraton for induction (and please, let's not revisit the "it's not "rock" thing" - one perusal of past inductees should cover that). Since the stats that reflect level of accomplishment and success are not open to debate it comes down to subjective judgements.
And here we are - back to that arbitor. That arbitor is still not me or you. If you don't like who is inducted don't buy a ticket. I don't plan to either way. OTOH, I really like the newest MUSE cd - my vote.
History isn't about "public taste".
Should Ben Franklin be written out of the history books because he "never was elected president"?
If we leave "history" to "personal/public" bias, then you can already predict how partisan academics will mark the history of the Reagan years.
This Hall is the canon of "what IS rock". Or at least purports to be.
