Are you really saying that if your wife, the person you have loved for possibly many years goes missing, that you wouldn’t talk to the police about it? Would you even report her disappearance to the police? Or would you hire an attorney to do that for you too? Seriesly?
The rule is to never talk to the police under any circumstances. That's the advice that any attorney who is competent is going to give you. But, when he's there, he'll also allow you to talk (or not) according to his advice. That's why you have an attorney -- if you need one.
And if it involves the police, you need one -- or else -- do not ever talk to the police.
No matter what an "non-professional" thinks... it's still the professional's advice (i.e., a lawyer protecting your rights, and also, you see the agreement from the professional police investigator that this is true) -- to never talk to the police.
If you are smart, you'll follow your own attorney's advice.
