You were asking ...

You don't see any distinction between asserting your constitutional rights in an appropriate circumstance, and just being retarded about it? LOL.

I guess you don't understand that attorney's advice to never ever talk to the police, and also the police investigator's agreement with it (from his side of things, being the "police" and asking those questions... :-) ...).

You didn't hear them saying, "Don't talk to the police except in this kind of situation..." LOL...

Just because you decide to go against a couple of different professionals and their advice doesn't mean that the rest of us have to be ignorant, too...

I support the police 100% but I also couldn’t agree more. Never ever talk to them. Always exercise your rights no matter what. I have first hand experience with giving them a statement only to have it come back looking like a complete work of fiction. Cost my family $25k in legal fees.

Once again, you need to listen to that law professor and lawyer and then also listen to that professional police investigator (in that same video). They both confirm that this is not a stupid scenario just given to us... :-)

That's exactly how things can play out. The police know, when they arrive, that "you" are the number one suspect, so they are going to make quick work of you... LOL...

Of COURSE he’s the #1 suspect!! He took his LITTLE kids camping at 12:30 AM on the COLDEST NIGHT of the YEAR and his wife just HAPPENS to go MISSING???? Geesh....any IDIOT would think he’s as guilty as sin.

I'm very sorry to hear about that experience of yours and the fees involved. That's a shame and I hate to hear things like that.

But, I'm glad you've given us a good example of why one should follow these professionals' advice -- both the law professor/lawyer and the professional police investigator -- both saying the same thing.

And we've heard from another FReeper or two on the matter. They are telling us (from direct experience) to never ever talk to the police...

He does talk fast, hm? He’s just so brilliant, though....

When I was there, he would begin class by playing guitar, shoes off, leading the students in singing worship songs or hymns. And then he would pray for the students.

And precisely the reason for never ever talking to the police... :-)

The police think that and you think that... along with a number of other FReepers.

I don't think I could have provided a better reason for never ever talking to the police as FReepers here have provided from their own thinking... LOL...

I can tell he’s “sharp as a tack” and an entertaining kind of guy and very capable of keeping the interest of the students. He sounds like an excellent professor...

I saw the video you are referring to here. I also took it quite to heart. But I repeat, the extent to which you are taking it, is just silly. Giving information to the police to find a loved one, is not always equivalent to answering questions for investigators. Merry Christmas GoofBall.

Well, it’s simple... when does “never ever talk to the police” — actually mean, instead, “talk to the police in an extreme case...”... :-)

It would appear that you’re accusing those two professionals of being goofballs... by what they are advising people in their talks and professional opinions...

The best explanation I ever read was that of John Ramsey in the Ramsey’s book about Jon-Benet. [Paraphrased because it has been a long time since I read the book]:

...You want to find the murderer and so do the cops. We are talking about a charge of first degree murder. The cops suspect you, Patsey or someone else in the family. They are not interested in proving your innocence. They are interested in getting information to support an arrest. If you do not hire an attorney you are taking a major risk with the rest of your life. ...

It was a powerful passage. I never thought the Ramseys were guilty and they are the best example of why anyone should get an attorney, I am always troubled when “lawyering up” is equated with guilt.

I do not know if this guy is guilty or not. But I will base my judgment on something other than if he hired an attorney.

Thanks for the video link - he is a terrific lecturer. All of us *law abiding citizens* probably started out with the *help the police* mind set, but he makes so much sense.

When a crime or potential crime has been committed, the police are not in the business of *making friends*. LE is a tough job and we must consider (if we know the victim, or witness a crime), we are all *suspects* until we aren’t.

Thx again;)

Yes, indeed. It's a natural idea, I think to want to help the police do their jobs of catching the crooks. However, the so-called "crook" they are looking at is either you or me... LOL...

And to tell you the truth, it's the reactions of many FReepers and seeing their "ideas and opinions" about many supposed "guilty people" (and the basis on which they determine that these people are guilty) who provide me with the most persuasive reasons for not talking to the police and having an attorney... :-)

Or, to paraphrase (if I may),
"If you don't know your rights, you don't have any."

On other blogs, the possibility of a *stranger abduction* i.e. a stalker who watched her husband leave and Susan leaving with a *boyfriend* have been suggested.

But, it seems to me; if she had been confronted/abducted by a *stranger* that would have caused a struggle and if she went with a boyfriend, she would have taken her purse etc.,

I don’t think anyone has even tried to make the case that he may be innocent. That simply DOES NOT MATTER.

Any person should protect and exercise their constitutional rights. Quit trying to warp the issue here.

I have little doubt he killed her... no mother is going to let her husband take a two and four year-old “camping” in freezing weather, in the middle of the night, on a work night, and stay home.. nope... just need to find her body IMHO.

Do you think that all law profs and all LEOs are in lockstep with the opinions provided on the video you have linked to? Is there not difference of opinions amongst the experts?

My conversation with you is not about the Bill of Rights, your point there is unassailable. We absolutely have the right to keep our mouths shut.

My issue is typically with one size fits all thinking, which is what you appear to be doing, that under no circumstances should one ever do xyz.

I’ve never found that to be a formula for success. JMO.
