An 8-year-old boy from Taunton was sent home from school and ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation after drawing a stick-figure picture of Jesus Christ on the cross, according to the Taunton Daily Gazette.
The paper is reporting the boys father was called earlier this month by Maxham Elementary School officials who informed him his second-grade son had created a violent drawing. An image of the drawing published on the papers Web site shows a crucified Jesus with Xs over his eyes, signifying his death.
The paper did not identify the father, who asked for anonymity to protect his son.
As far as Im concerned, theyre violating his religion, the father told the paper.
He added his son drew the picture shortly after visiting the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette in Attelboro to see its Christmas display. He made the drawing in class after his teacher asked the children to sketch something that reminded them of Christmas, the father said.
A call placed by the Herald to Taunton Superintendent Julie Hackett was not immediately returned.

Were I the father, the “officials” at this school would have been EDUCATED with a whole new vocabulary!!
100% of the Tax-chick household think the father should recognize that the school is a loony-bin and make other arrangements for his son’s education.
>>asked the children to sketch something that reminded them of Christmas
The teacher actually said the C-word! Am surprised the teacher did not say, “Children, I want you to draw a picture of something that relates to Winter Solstice Gift Giving
Snowy Weather Holiday.”
These people are absolute morons. How could this have gotten as far as the parent of this child being notified? You have to go through a few faculty members before that happens.
Nothing is more offensive than mentioning Christ at Christmas time(extreme sarcasm).
No good choices. Principal and Teacher should undergo the evaluation and forced to live and teach in Venezuela for 1 year while listening to Rush, Beck and Reagan speeches.
But drawing pictures of a Muslim shooting Ft. Hood soldiers would be reason for student of the year award. ~sarc off
Just received this email - author unknown.
Jesus is the Christ in Christmas - Santa is just His helper.
Santa lives at the North Pole.
JESUS is everywhere.
Santa rides in a sleigh
JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.
Santa comes but once a year
JESUS is an ever present help.
Santa fills your stockings with goodies
JESUS supplies all your needs.
Santa comes down your chimney uninvited
JESUS stands at your door and knocks.. And then enters your heart.
You have to stand in line to see Santa
JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.
Santa lets you sit on his lap
JESUS lets you rest in His arms.
Santa doesn’t know your name, all he can say is “Hi little boy or girl, What’s your name?”
JESUS knew our name before we did.. Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our heads.
Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly
JESUS has a heart full of love.
All Santa can offer is HO HO HO
JESUS offers health, help and hope.
Santa says “You better not cry”
JESUS says “Cast all your cares on me for I care for you.
Santa’s little helpers make toys
JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions.
Santa may make you chuckle but
JESUS gives you joy that is your strength.
While Santa puts gifts under your tree
JESUS became our gift and died on the tree.
It’s obvious there is really no comparison.
We need to remember WHO Christmas is all about.
We need to put Christ back in Christmas.
Jesus is still the reason for the season.

My late F-i-L was the general secretary of the Attleboro YMCA for over 30 years. He used to refer to La Sallette as the Golden Nugget. It is a bit gaudy.

I think what happened is that because he put Xs in the eyes of Jesus, the teacher was alarmed and they told the parents they thought it was violent, said Toni Saunders, an educational consultant with the Associated Advocacy Center.
When I got that call, I was so appalled that I had to do something, Saunders said.
They werent looking at the fact that this is an 8-year-old child with special needs, she added. They made him leave school, and they recommended that a psychiatrist do an evaluation.
The school, in fact, required the evaluation before the boy could return, the father said.
The father was flabbergasted when he learned his son had to undergo an evaluation.
When she told me he needed to be psychologically evaluated, I thought she was playing, he said.
The man said his son, who gets specialized reading and speech instruction at school, has never shown any tendency toward violence.
Hes never been suspended, he said. Hes 8 years old. They overreacted.
The boy made the drawing and was sent home from school on Dec. 2. He went for the psychological evaluation at his parents expense the next day and was cleared to return to school the following Monday after the psychological evaluation found nothing to indicate that he posed a threat to himself or others.
The boy, however, was traumatized by the incident, which made going back to school very difficult, the father said. School administrators have approved the fathers request to have the boy transferred to another elementary school in the district.
This is not the first time in recent years that a Taunton student has been sent home over a drawing. In June 2008, a fifth-grade student was suspended from Mulcahey Middle School for a day after creating a stick figure drawing that appeared to depict him shooting his teacher and a classmate.
Psychological evaluation,by whom pro or anti Christ shrink?
If I were the father the child would NEVER, I repeat NEVER EVER be allowed in a public school.
The teacher did her job. She was able to ferret out the Christian lurking among her students. A regular Caligula she is. The safe School Czar would be proud.
I’m flying to FRA tonight and can’t listen to Howie Carr. It should be a good one.
The father is a fool for (1) sending his soon for a psychological evaluation (2) Paying his hard earned money for this nonsense and (3) not yanking his kid out of the stupid school system altogether
Ahhhh ...the old x over the eyes trick. Arrest him.
100% - The principal should be fired
100% - The teacher should be fired
100% - The father should sue the principal, the teacher, and the school district
100% - The father should kick the asses of the principal and the teacher
At least that’s how the poll SHOULD be.
In June 2008, a fifth-grade student was suspended from Mulcahey Middle School for a day after creating a stick figure drawing that appeared to depict him shooting his teacher and a classmate. ............................... LOL, going to elementary school in the late 40’s you should see what we use to draw in class. Violent? Nah, Extreme Violent is more like it, but we grew up fine. Today this is such a huge load of BS, but its OK if you want to raise a generation of pansies. I’m surprised they haven’t outlawed the FPS video games, give them time, I’m sure its coming.
