In 2008 President Bush made no reference to “Christmas” either... although he did include on verse from Matthew (but it doesn’t mention Christmas there, either... ).
This is something that has been going on for a while in our society. President Bush also sent out other Christmas cards (prior to 2008) which did not mention “Christmas” either.
I think one time there was a controversy (with President Bush) over a “Christmas tree” being on a card sent to Jews... LOL...
It’s the way things are going now, whether it’s a Republican or Democrat, it appears to me... (and by direct observation of what President Bush did...).
2008 inscription:
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

2007:
You alone are the LORD.
You made the heavens, even the highest heavens,
and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it,
the seas and all that is in them.
You give life to everything,
and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
NEHEMIAH 9:6 (NIV)
But whereas in previous years the President and the First Lady opted for messages of happiness, goodwill, and peace, this year featured the following closer:
May the joy of all creation fill your heart this blessed season 2007.
It is then signed by both George and Laura Bush.
